First-Year Students

Step 1: Apply Online
Eligible first-year students have completed or will complete a high school diploma or obtain a GED. Students must have no previous college work or have only completed college credits while enrolled in high school.
Follow these step-by-step instructions to apply:
- Access the Online Application
- Click on "Create an account"
- Fill out the required fields and select continue
- Log in with your email and password
- Complete and submit your application with the $40 non-refundable application fee
- Submit the required documents in the section below

Step 2: Provide These Additional Required Documents
Provide additional required documents to the Office of Admissions.
Additional required documents:
- High school transcript(s)
- (unofficial transcripts are sufficient for currently enrolled students who have not graduated)
- Senior year (12th grade) course schedule, if not included on the transcript
- ACT or SAT scores (optional)
- If applicable, college or university transcript(s)
- (unofficial transcripts are sufficient for currently enrolled students)
Applicants can upload required documents via the Application Status Portal.
We will begin communicating admission decisions to applicants starting in October.
Transfer Students

Step 1: Apply Online
Eligible transfer students have completed at least one college credit of baccalaureate-level coursework following high school graduation or equivalent.
Students who have previously attended UMD and are looking to re-enroll. Learn More.
If you are transferring from another University of Minnesota campus, please apply directly to UMD following the instructions below.

- Fill out the required fields and select continue

International applicants are evaluated on an individual basis, with consideration given to the academic record of each student in relation to the educational system of his or her native country. Students applying must show evidence of exceptional academic achievement and probability of success at UMD.
