Official Documents
While the Admissions Committee will provisionally work with unofficial documents, students who have finished an educational level (high school or university) should work with their school and request an official transcript be sent to [email protected].
The requirement for official documents becomes especially urgent for admitted students. While the committee will admit students with unofficial documents, those students will not be permitted to enroll in classes without official documentation of all educational attainments. International students who are not enrolled in classes jeopardize their visa status.
Required Documents
- Official Transcripts from all schools attended (high school, college, university)
- Leaving Certificate - Students must provide appropriate official documentation of their completion of secondary education. For many students, this is done by providing the results of a national graduation exam (eg, WAEC, CSEC, etc). For others, it is a diploma or other certificate. Please contact the Admissions Office for details about what is required.
- English Proficiency - as detailed on the English Proficiency page, documentation of English abilities is required at the application stage.
What Qualifies as Official?
To ensure a smooth transition, please submit official transcripts directly from your issuing institutions to UMD as soon as they're available. Below are guidelines for obtaining and submitting official transcripts:
- Official paper documents are directly sent to and received by UMD from the school, college, university, or department of education to UMD in sealed unopened envelopes.
- Official electronic documents are directly sent to and received by UMD from a verified high school/secondary official, college official, or marked as official via an approved transcript vendor (e.g., National Student Clearinghouse, Parchment, eSCRIP-SAFE, and Scoir).
- All documents not issued in English must be in the original language and include an accurate, true (word-for-word) English translation.
- Applicants may deliver paper documents in person, but the documents must be in a sealed, unopened envelope from the issuing source or be able to be verified (issuing source, 3rd party, etc.).
- Applicants are required to submit proof of high school/secondary graduation, a graduation certificate, leaving exam results, or equivalent prior to the first day of classes.
Official Test Scores
Students should contact the testing service and ask that their scores be sent directly to the University of Minnesota Duluth. Scores provided by an applicant are not considered official and will not be accepted.
